The wonderful world of Hermès

Hermès packagingEvery bag minded woman has a bucket list and I bet if you ask them for the number one on the list, they will say it’s a Hermès Birkin. But what’s up with every woman, and I mean every woman, dreaming about a Hermès? If I’m correct, Victoria Beckham has even more than one Birkin and Kim K. can’t even count them anymore. Whether it’s the Birkin, the Kelly or the silky stuff, I WANT IT ALL!

History of Hermès

Let’s start with a bit of history. Hermès was founded in Paris in 1837 by Thierry Hermès. Originally, Hermès wasn’t a fashion label at all. It started with selling saddles and other horse-related products to rich families in Europe. When travelling became their new hobby, Emile-Maurice Hermès (the follow-up of Thierry Hermès) started to design suitcases and other travel products. A few years later he also started selling watches and jewelry. Continue reading The wonderful world of Hermès

The Jenna of Smaak Amsterdam

Jenna of Smaak AmsterdamOkay, I admit the Jenna of Smaak Amsterdam still isn’t very cheap, but it is a good alternative if you’re in love with the Hermes Kelly, but you do not have a sugardaddy who spoils you all the time (no worries, unfortunately I have to spoil myself too).

This bag comes in two sizes and in various colours with a very chic and classic appearance. The colours are timeless, so you can wear them every moment of the year on any occasion. For me this is a typical bag for a good office look (a little girlboss style), but hey that’s my opinion. If you want to go hiking with it, go for it!

It’s a leather bag with brass hardware and a colored lining of suede. The regular Jenna costs € 239,- and the Big Jenna € 289,-. Like I told before still not that cheap, but luckily you don’t have to eat cornflakes for dinner every night to afford one.  Since Smaak Amsterdam is a Dutch brand I can only give the price in Euro’s.

If I made you curious, here’s more info.

The BagscoutHi! Welcome at The Bagscout, THE biggest bad ass bag club!

Let me introduce myself. I’m Mandy, a thirty-something based in Amsterdam. Maybe you guessed it already, but I’m a bagaholic! I dream about bags, I read bags, and if I could I would sleep with them too (I almost cried when my first designer had a scratch, so not an option of course).  I might seem cuckoo to people, but I think I’m perfectly normal!

Ever since I was little my dad ran into stores and asked if I could get a free paper bag of that particular store. I kept the one I got in St. Tropez for years and years. I think my passion for bags started here, pretty innocent. Years later my passion became more intense and a bag of the H&M was not good enough anymore. My first designer was a Marc by Marc Jacobs and it took me a year and a half to buy it. It was a lot of money, but I could not stop dreaming about it. Years later I’m still in love with my first designer ever, worth every penny. And that was the beginning of a passion that can almost be called an obsession. And no, I don’t own a Birkin or have five Bamboo’s, but one day I might ;-).
